El Cangrejo (the crab) is the neighborhood I prefer to live in. Nowhere else is the diversity of Panama more apparent. This region at the heart of this city has hundreds of restaurants of every imaginable cuisine. A great place for breakfast with bottomless coffee and free WiFi is NY bagel located near Einstein’s head.

It is also the home of an eclectic expat community, North American, Latin American, European, and Asian, and very safe with a wide variety of housing options. El Cangrejo is also Panama City’s bawdiest zone, but not in a in your face kind of way. Prostitution is legal in Panama, and El Cangrejo is where the trade is largely focused in the country’s capital. This may bother you or be just what you’re in the market for. In either case either avoid or frequent Habanos bar.
